AI Creative Summit 2024

Our Creative Technologist James Pollock travelled to London on Wednesday to speak at the AI Creative Summit. Here is his summary of the event.

Recently, myself and Lux Aeterna’s VFX Director Paul Silcox attended this year’s AI Creative Summit, held at the BFI in London. The event was full of the experiences and perspectives of those engaging with AI in the creative industries. The kind of insights that cut through the hype and focus on what’s real.

We heard from Peter Luisi, the director behind ‘The Last Screenwriter’, a film about a screenwriter wrestling with their AI assistant, where the film itself was screenwritten by ChatGPT! What was great about this interview was just how candid Peter was about his experience ‒ he made it clear that it was a big experiment and the film is meant to be viewed with the full knowledge of its creation.

Ethics, jobs, and IP were strong themes across the day. These topics also arose in the panel discussion I took part in; ‘AI in Post Production: What Efficiencies are being made through AI’, where I talked about what we see driving the adoption of new AI-based tools, how niche and specialised AI solutions need to be, and how critical it is that these tools and their outputs adhere not just to our standards, but also the standards and AI policies of our clients.
