My Day At Blue Earth Summit

Last week our Junior Motion Graphics Designer, Alex, had the amazing opportunity to attend the Blue Earth Summit. The summit hosts more than 5000 esteemed speakers, start-up pioneers, investors and purpose-led company representatives with the goal of providing solutions to help us all live and work more sustainably, here is his account of the inspiring event.

Experiencing Blue Earth Summit

The event was held in Propyard, Bristol, and it included many speakers, workshops and pitches across different stages. I managed to hear from David Olusoga who talked about the UK’s rapid urbanisation in the past and how the culture of land ownership and exclusion based on wealth, race and class has left many people disconnected from nature. We recently worked with David on BBC Two documentary series ‘Union’ where David explores the history of the United Kingdom.

Other insightful talks were given by Deborah Meaden, who spoke about the importance of businesses stepping up when governments can't keep up and Eva Kruse, Executive of Pangaia, who spoke about the importance of material innovation in the fashion industry. Joss Ford, Emma Blake Morsi, and Daniel Salzer from Enviral hosted a very inspiring talk and accompanying workshop regarding the future of the creative industries and the importance of working with clients, projects and briefs that align with your company's values. Here at Lux Aeterna we implement this by working with clients such as the BBC Natural History Unit and BBC Studios Science Unit who share our passion for sustainability and environmentally friendly projects.

In addition to the talks there were also many innovative start-ups and products that were presented. Some of these included a packaging made of mushrooms that could be used to replace plastic, ways to make your website hosting more eco-friendly, strategies for rewilding our oceans using seaweed, and many more.

Going to the Blue Earth Summit was incredibly insightful and provided me with a range of different perspectives and techniques to help increase sustainability that I plan to implement here at Lux Aeterna. By writing this blog I am pledging to research, discover, and start conversations on how we can positively contribute to the environment on both an individual and company level.
